How do I Convince My Fiance, Boyfriend or any Macho Man to Take Dance Lessons?

Every so often we hear a woman complain that her man refuses to dance or take dance lessons with her. More times than not, no explanation is offered, which leaves those of us who dance pondering what the real reasons for the refusal might be; us dancers dance because we enjoy it, we see beauty in moving with another human being and we gain all sorts of physical and psychological benefits. But not every household raises dancers. In the United States, very few boys are exposed to dance because it is seen as a feminine art. Dance is taboo for boys. Not until boys turn into men do they realize that dance is a marketable dating skill – an attractive commodity. And by this time, they feel it’s too late to learn or that they’re simply too old to pick up a new skill, but the truth is you are never too old to learn anything and dance is for everyone. Here are a few things all men should know about dance:

If you can walk, you can dance. Dancing is like fancy walking. There are steps and patterns that take time to learn and perfect. But we are all born with the instinct to move. You can learn any kind of movement as long as you can walk.

Dance is a Sport.  Learning dance steps is similar to learning soccer, basketball or football drills. It takes time to perfect a drill and practice makes perfect.  And to dance well, one needs good health, poise, co-ordination, stamina, strength, athleticism, rhythm, balance, speed, an ability to predict and react to the movements of others. Interestingly enough, all these things are also what make a good athlete.

Men get to Lead. Traditionally, men lead and women follow in social dance. Men get to take charge. On the dance floor, men decide when to spin the lady, when to dip and where to go. As James Brown might say, it’s a man’s world on the dance floor.

It’s a Fun Date Night. Don’t you ever get bored of movie and dinner dates? You can spice up your relationship by learning to dance together! Take some dance lessons with your significant other and bring him/her out and show off your moves!

The Hottest Men Dance! What do James Dean, Ryan Gosling and Bruce Lee have in common? Besides their great acting, fame and attractive bodies, it’s their dance skills! James Dean started tap dancing when he was 3. Ryan Gosling regularly takes ballet to keep him in shape. And Bruce Lee actually studied dancing as hard as he did in martial arts. He won the 1958 Cha Cha Championship when he was 18! Check them out! Hot! In addition, dance has also become a regular part of the exercise regime for many professional football and basketball players.

“If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.” -Bruce Lee

Do you know any other male figures who dance? Do you like this post? Do you have a topic that you’d like us to include? Feel free to leave a comment below.
