Why give dance lessons?

While shiney things that come in small boxes are always appreciated, experiences are what we live for (i.e., what we look forward to and remember fondly).

We all know this in our hearts, that the times we share with friends and loved ones are what we cherish most, and science now proves it!

Research recently compiled by Fast Company says that what we really want is to experience new and challenging things. Yeah, that new TV might be tempting. You could sit back, relax and watch it every night for a few years to come. And that long delayed vacation seems like a waste of money, right? What do you come back with – pictures?

But research started back in 2003, and exponentially expanding from there, proves the exact opposite. We need to look forward to new experiences with our loved ones and we need to look back fondly on those experiences. The new TV is great, but the long awaited vacation is greater! In other words: skip the new piece of jewelry and share a vacation or dance lessons with your loved one. Buy an experience! Read more about the research here.

What services can gift certificates be used for/what styles of dance?

Maybe your girlfriend continues to ask you to take her salsa dancing. Maybe your husband has long dreamed of waltzing with you at a black tie event. Maybe your parents have always wanted to learn to dance together and now they’re retired and have the time.

The great news is that a gift certificate for private lessons will make any of these scenarios come true!

For our private lesson gift certificates, the recipient may use the lessons to learn any dance style(s) that interest them, whether that’s salsa, swing, waltz, tango, cha cha, improvisation or something entirely different! We teach all ballroom, Latin, and social partner styles.

If you’re not sure what style of dance you or your giftee want to learn, we will help guide you/them through the process. Oftentimes, your favorite music is a great place to start exploring because dance is all about moving to music that inspires you.

Something else to keep in mind is that private dance lessons can be scheduled at the convenience of the recipient, whereas group classes and BYOB dance parties are on specific days and times.

If you have any questions, contact us and we’d be delighted to answer them.

Are gift certificates good for learning a first dance?

How many times have you gone to a wedding and felt pretty underwhelmed by the first dance? Avoid the “hug and waddle” and get some dance lessons! Whether this is a gift for your own fiance or another couple, know that you’ll be doing them a huge favor by gifting them some hours with a wedding dance professional.

The value of dance lessons goes well beyond learning to dance for a wedding. Dance lessons are a form of couple’s therapy. If fact, Psychologist Michael Broder recently published an article about how wedding stress can ruin relationships. Couples start spending all of their free time making stressful decision about their big day and stop spending quality time just being together. When you’re learning to dance, you’ll have time each week built into your schedule where you have no choice but to be in your fiance’s arms, looking into his/her eyes.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

Who would dance lessons be a good fit for?

Dance lessons are a great gift for everyone, especially in this day-and-age when we spend more time on Facebook than we do actually interacting with others face-to-face. In fact, research published by the American Psychological Association states that because of social networking we are more connected to each other than ever before, but in our unplugged lives we are more lonely and distant from each other. What this means for us is that we need to make a concerted effort to connect to others, especially that one person most important to us, and learning to dance is perfect for that.

Here is what we hear from our clients:

*Couples preparing for their wedding tell us that dance lessons were the best part of wedding preparation. It gave them specific times every week where they had to put everything else aside and just focus on each other.

*Already married couples tell us that, in addition to picking up a new skill, learning to dance is the best couple’s therapy they’ve ever had.

*Dating couples say that learning to dance is a great way to create deeper bonds with their partner.

*Singles say that dancing opened them up to new social circles and improved confidence and self-esteem.

In addition to helping us build stronger bonds with others, dancing offers countless more benefits – social, physical and psychological. If you want to read more about the benefits of dance, click here.

Can I purchase a gift certificate for group classes?

Absolutely! We offer gift certificates for private lessons, group dance classes and our BYOB dance parties. We have so many options because everyone approaches learning to dance from a different angle.

While private lessons are without a doubt the best way to learn to dance, learning for some people is secondary to socializing, in which case we’d recommend group classes (with some private lessons peppered in the mix). And if learning to dance is the last thing on someone’s mind – meaning you just want to dance and groove – we’d recommend the BYOB dance parties.

For more information about what might be right for your gift-ee, check out our different offerings: private dance lessons, wedding dance lessons, BYOB group dance classes, BYOB dance parties. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions.

Are gift certificates for individuals or couples?

Well, that depends:

*Our private lesson gift certificates are redeemable for up to two people each lesson. Essentially, when you purchase a private lesson, you are requesting the time of one instructor who will work with either an individual or a couple. The recipient can choose to come alone or with a partner.

*Group class gift certificates can be purchased for individuals or couples.

This might all seem a bit confusing, so if you have questions or need clarification, please contact us.
