Teacher Training Program

Introducing Ballroom Dance Chicago’s 72-Hour Teacher Training Program
At Ballroom Dance Chicago, we believe that dance has the power to connect people. Specifically, we believe that partner dancing has the ability to bring people closer through learning, moving, and expressing together. Through our teacher training program, we aim to expand this love of partner dance by inspiring and cultivating another generation of partner dance teachers.  We are now accepting applicants for our Fall/Winter 2018 and Spring 2019 teacher training programs.

About the Program

Over the course of the program, participants will develop and deepen their own understanding of partner dance techniques, while connecting it to their prior and current movement training. Students will gain physical familiarity with commonly practiced ballroom dances with specific focus on technique, musicality, partnering, and creative practices/composition.

In addition to developing a personal dance practice, participants will hone their teaching skills in both a private lesson and group class setting. After the first weeks of the program, which will focus on personal dance development, participants will begin a more rigorous study of teaching methods and communication practices. Through one-on-one mentorship and group practicums, participants will practice designing and teaching effective lessons while maintaining a sense of lightness & play, and inspiring their students to deepen their interest in dance.

At the completion of the program, participants will have gained proficiency in the basic steps of  Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Rumba, Salsa, and Swing, in addition to teaching theories and practices to carry into their own partner or solo dance practice.
